One Piece: The Battle of Alabasta casts His Dark Materials star and more for third season

Netflix has bolstered the cast of One Piece: The Battle of Alabasta, the third season of its live-action anime adaptation, with four new recurring players – including His Dark Materials actor Jamie Ward.

The additions were revealed during the One Piece Day stage show in Tokyo, an event celebrating the wildly popular multimedia franchise now spanning manga, animation, live-action, trading cards and video games (via Deadline).

Ward, who played Father Gomez in the BBC/HBO's acclaimed Philip Pullman adaptation, has been cast as Pell in One Piece, alongside Strike Back's Nabeel Khan as Chaka – both Royal Guardians of the embattled Alabasta.

The synopsis, courtesy of TUDUM, teases that a rebellion "threatens to tear the nation apart, fuelled in secret by one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, the ruthless Sir Crocodile, and his underground syndicate Baroque Works, who seek to conquer Alabasta for themselves".

Rounding out the new additions are Emilio Sakraya (Those About to Die) as rebel army leader Koza, and Omid Abtahi (The Mandalorian) as Alabastan well digger Toto, who is tied to the kingdom's fate.

They join the returning Straw Hats, including Iñaki Godoy as Luffy, Mackenyu as Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp and Taz Skylar as Sanji.

Also back are Charithra Chandran as Miss Wednesday, Mikaela Hoover voicing Chopper, Joe Manganiello as Mr 0, Lera Abova as Miss All Sunday and Sendhil Ramamurthy as Nefertari Cobra.

Production on the season has wrapped in Cape Town, South Africa, with the new episodes now in post-production and eyeing a 2027 premiere date.

Previously announced additions to the season include Cole Escola as Bon Clay, Xolo Maridueña as Portgas D Ace, Daisy Head as Miss Doublefinger and Awdo Awdo as Mr 1.
