Speaking at a recent fan convention, Billie Piper has opened up about her future on Doctor Who, telling fans to "chill" out and "be patient", but promising that whatever is coming for the show "will be worth it".
Speaking at the For the Love of Fantasy & Sci-Fi convention in London, Piper said categorically that she is "not the next Doctor", before clarifying that she is "Rose Tyler in hiatus".
She explained: "Sorry, that's a really cryptic answer, but because I'm not currently filming Doctor Who as the Doctor, I can't lie and say otherwise."
"I think you've all got to be very patient," Piper added. "It will be worth it when it comes. And I think that we need to celebrate the fact that the show has been on. Is it 26 years? Anyway, it's been around for a very long time, it's been massively successful and it's impacted so many people's lives positively.
"And it's had a bit of a rough time lately and I think everyone just needs to chill out and wait for what comes from the space... and time."

It was expected that she would next appear in an announced 2026 Christmas special, but earlier this year that was cancelled, and it was announced that the show was being put out to tender.
That process is expected to take place later this year, with BBC Studios and Dean Devlin's Electric Entertainment having already expressed interest in making proposals when the time comes.
It is not clear whether the show will pick up right from the cliffhanger when it returns, or skirt past this and go down a different avenue. This will likely depend on the pitch made by any incoming producers, meaning that any predictions regarding the show's future storylines are currently just speculation.
Earlier this summer, former showrunner Steven Moffat said that "the show will return – very, very definitely," while more recently one of his collaborators and a former writer on the show, Mark Gatiss, has offered a more "doomy" outlook.
