ROCHESTER, N.Y. – An area of spinning low-pressure to our north, over Canada, will bring us favorable conditions for lake-enhanced rain showers over the next couple of days. The start of the workweek will feel a lot more like fall rather than the end of August! Sunday evening will continue to bring showers and thunder at times with sun in between the scattered showers. Temperatures will stay in the 60s for the remainder of the evening before dropping to a low around 56 degrees overnight. Winds will mostly remain out of the west and southwest through Sunday night with sustained speeds between 10 and 20 mph. Intermittent rain showers will continue throughout the evening throughout western New York, with Rochester seeing little if any accumulation. Most of these showers will stay just south of the city.
As unseasonably cold air moves down from the northwest and settles in our region, Monday’s high temperatures will only reach near 66 degrees and even less for the higher elevations south of Rochester! Winds will still remain breezy between 10 to 20 mph but will slowly start to shift from the southwest to more westerly, before tranisitioning to out of the northwest later Monday and into Tuesday. This may encourage an additional lake response off of Lake Ontario, bringing light rain showers through Tuesday as well. Tuesday’s temperatures will be a little better than Monday’s with highs expected in the low-70s. Winds will continue to stay a little breezy through Tuesday as they shift to out of the northwest.
We get a break from the cool, damp weather on Wednesday as a small area of high pressure and ridging moves into the northeast. This will support sunshine and high temperatures near 80 degrees. However, another system approaches on Thursday which will bring another chance for scattered showers and storms later into the week.
