FAIRPORT, N.Y. — Fairport High School is moving its start time for the new academic year.
The school board voted unanimously back in 2024 to delay the high school start time from 7:25 a.m. to 9 a.m. School officials say the change follows recommendations for teenagers to get more sleep.
“The crucial role in sleep in exactly the reason you’re sending your children to school, ie: to learn, is highly under-appreciated,” said John Foxe, Director of the Del Monte Institute for Neuroscience at the University of Rochester.
News10NBC Chief Investigative Reporter Berkeley Brean spoke with Fairport School Superintendent Brett Provenzano in 2024 about the vote, and asked him what he wants to see by June of 2027.
“I want to see our students thriving,” Provenzano said. “I want to see that the transition went smoothly.”
