The Chicago Bears are donating $200,000 to support recovery efforts across Chicago’s south suburbs and northwest Indiana following a series of destructive storms earlier this month.
The Bears announced on Saturday $100,000 will go to Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago, while an additional $100,000 will support efforts through Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Gary.
Both organizations are working to help residents recover by assisting those without power and providing help with food, clothing and housing, according to a news release.
Residents in Cook and Lake Counties affected by the storms who need assistance can contact Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago at 312-655-7700. Northwest Indiana residents are asked to call Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Gary at 219-886-3549, option 2.
The donations come as the team continues to pursue plans for a stadium in Hammond, Indiana. However, at a news conference earlier this month, Bears officials noted conversations with Illinois remain ongoing.
