Anwar Richardson of Orangebloods.com reports that Ty’Anthony Smith is not with the team. Smith was entering his junior season. Richardson notes that Smith missed last Saturday’s scrimmage because of the flu, but returned to practice this week. Richardson reports that a personal matter was the primary reason Texas parted ways with Smith.

Smith’s bio has been removed from Texas’s online roster. A Jasper (Texas) High School product, he was a 4-star recruit in the Class of 2024 and signed with the Longhorns over Texas A&M, Oklahoma, USC and others.
In 2 seasons, Smith appeared in 29 games for Steve Sarkisian‘s Longhorns. Last season, he recorded 60 tackles and 5.5 TFLs over 13 appearances, posting a career-high 9 tackles in the Citrus Bowl win over Michigan.
Texas hosts Texas State on Sept. 5 to open its 2026 season.
