Verdict reached in trial of woman charged in killing of Bradley police officer

A verdict was reached late Friday in the trial of a woman charged in connection with the deadly shooting of a Bradley police officer, and her partner, who survived but was severely injured.

The jury found Xandria Harris guilty of murder, attempted murder and aggravated battery with firearm for her role as an accomplice to her boyfriend Darius Sullivan.

Sullivan opened fire on two Bradley police officers in December of 2021, killing Sgt. Marlene Ritmanic and severely injuring her partner, Officer Tyler Bailey.

Prosecutors made their closing arguments on Friday in the two-week-long trial, picking apart Harris’ testimony on the stand when she claimed she feared for her life and the lives of her children if she did not comply with Sullivan’s demands.

The prosecution also played body camera footage that they say showed Harris holding the magazine for one of the weapons used in the shooting.

Harris’ attorney also showed records that she said showed years of diagnoses for depression and anxiety. Harris testified that she concealed the alleged abuse from her family and police.
