“The crew chief said that he went into the restroom and that he could hear him coughing very, very abruptly, and that he asked Kyle, ‘Are you alright?’” Kurt recalled. “And Kyle said ‘No.’”
Kyle died the next day at age 41. His death certificate, exclusively obtained by Us, revealed he was suffering from pneumonia, which progressed into sepsis.

“I was there at the hospital. There all day,” Kurt said. “Hoping, praying, hoping for a turnaround.”
As Kyle’s condition deteriorated, Kurt added that he was by his brother’s side.
“I said, ‘I got you man,’” Kurt recalled through tears. “‘Come on. I got you. I got you, come on, be strong.’ I was in prayer.”
While the Busch family gathered at the hospital, Kurt revealed that their father, Tom Busch, couldn’t bear to enter the room where Kyle was dying.
“My dad wanted to remember him in the way he wanted to remember him,” Kurt said.

“He’s a prodigy,” Kurt said. “He was on the gas even before all of this. He can be a big star in the world of motorsports. He’s 11, but he’s already racing like an 18-year-old.”

“I reflect back on the days Kyle and I raced anything we could get our hands on,” he wrote. “From big wheels to competing on the biggest stages in motorsports, we were more than just fierce competitors. We pushed each other, challenged each other, and learned from each other.”
Kurt continued, “Kyle, your passion, determination, and love for your family inspired everyone who knew you. No trophy, championship, or accomplishment could ever measure the impact you had on my life and on so many others. I will forever be grateful for the memories we made, the lessons you taught me, and the brotherhood we shared. My heart is broken, but I know your spirit will always ride with me. Rest easy, little brother.”
