It’s not just you — everyone is obsessed with Ella Langley‘s addicting “Choosin’ Texas.” There’s a reason it’s been superglued to the No. 1 spot on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart for a record-breaking 18 weeks, right?
While on a trip across the pond to open for fellow star Luke Combs at Wembley Stadium, Thomas Rhett tried his hand at an acoustic cover of Langley’s smash hit, and some fans think it’s even better than her original.
“Choosin’ Texas” is a co-write between Langley, Miranda Lambert and Joybeth Taylor, but watching his cover, you could believe Rhett had a hand in it, too (he didn’t, he’s just a fan).
Backed by spotlights and a guitarist, the “Die a Happy Man” singer poured his heart into the lyrics about a lover who’s got wandering eyes for someone new, quite literally baring his chest as he sang. The appearance was shot for the U.K.’s Absolute Radio.
Fans in the comments section below the YouTube video were taken aback, not expecting to love Rhett’s version of the song — which is from the female perspective — as much as they do.
“I have yet to hear one of your covers where I don’t think you’ve outdone the original artist!” one person writes.
“You sound absolutely amazing singing this!” someone else says.
Then there’s this person, who may have found a new favorite artist, admitting: “I like this version more honestly lol.”
It’s not the first time Rhett has performed this song, which is one of the biggest hits of 2026, but it is the first time he’s done it solo in such an intimate setting. Previously, he and pop star Niall Horan sang the song together in Nashville during one of their co-headlining stadium shows.
Don’t think for one second that Rhett is hopping on the “Choosin’ Texas” bandwagon because it’s popular. He’s a true Ella’s Fella, and it runs in his family. Talking to Country Countdown USA in April, Rhett told a funny story about hanging out with his grandma, who had a question about a confusing line in Langley’s song. So, he did what any famous country-singing grandson would do. “I said, ‘Let’s FaceTime her and ask her,'” Rhett recalled.
Langley picked up the phone — she was backstage about to open up for Eric Church — but Rhett said she still “was so gracious to walk my grandma through the opening verse.”
“My grandmother is a huge Ella fan,” he dished. Well, that makes, well, all of us.
