Trevor Nelson confirms brain tumour surgery amid break from BBC Radio went well

BBC Radio 2 star Trevor Nelson has revealed he took a break from work commitments after being diagnosed with a brain tumour and is now in recovery.

Nelson announced in June that he would be stepping away from work due to "health issues" after being absent from his Radio 2 slot.

In a post on Instagram on Thursday, he said that his "world was turned upside down" when he discovered he had a brain tumour.

He added that his surgery went "incredibly well" and that he’s spent the last month "recuperating, resting, and recovering", and that he hopes to return to work soon.

In a video message, Nelson explained: "There's been a lot of speculation as to what's wrong with me, I know that much. My phone's blown up 20 times over with people asking what's wrong with me.

"I felt that I should at least tell you what was wrong with me. I'm not going to go into it all now and I will deep dive into it at a later date so you can hear the full story."

He continued: "I'll tell you this, I was minding my own business and then it was discovered I had a brain tumour.

"I was shocked, my world was turned upside down, it was a shock to myself and close family and friends and you can imagine quite literally my head was all over the place."

The broadcaster added that he had surgery about a week after his diagnosis.

"Thankfully it went incredibly well, and the last month I’ve been at home recuperating, resting, recovering, and getting some post-op treatment."

He added: "I feel energised and almost back to myself, yes I've had a really serious situation but I've come out the other side at this point and I feel great. I feel raring to go and I feel in good health."

Nelson presented weekdays 2-4pm on Radio 2 and BBC Radio 1Xtra each Sunday from 11am-1pm before his break.

He celebrated 30 years at the BBC earlier this year, and received the judge's special recognition award at the Television and Radio Industries Club (TRIC) Awards in June.

He was also awarded with the special recognition award at the ARIAs in May, acknowledging his longstanding commitment to UK radio and audio.
