Neil Young and Willie Nelson Announce 2 Special Concerts Before Farm Aid

Neil Young and Willie Nelson are joining forces for two rare concerts ahead of this year’s Farm Aid.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, 80, and country music legend, 93, have announced two co-headlining shows with their respective bands in September, giving fans a chance to see the longtime friends and Farm Aid co-founders together before the annual benefit concert.

Young and The Chrome Hearts will perform with Willie Nelson & Family on Sept. 22 at the Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater in Bridgeport, Connecticut, followed by a Sept. 24 show at the TD Pavilion at the Mann in Philadelphia.

Rising country artist Ty Myers will open both concerts.

The concerts are particularly notable because they will be Young’s first full-scale shows of 2026. The rocker had planned to tour Europe and the U.K. earlier this year but canceled those dates in February, saying he had decided to take a break from touring.

The new dates come just days before Young and Nelson are scheduled to reunite with fellow Farm Aid board members for Farm Aid 2026 on Sept. 26 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

The two musicians have been closely connected through Farm Aid, which they co-founded with John Mellencamp in 1985.

This year’s Farm Aid lineup will feature Nelson and Young alongside Mellencamp, 74, Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds, Margo Price and Nathaniel Rateliff, as well as Lukas Nelson, Mike Campbell & The Dirty Knobs, the Turnpike Troubadours, Sierra Ferrell and others.

Nelson is already on the road as part of the 2026 Outlaw Music Festival. His current schedule includes dates through the end of August before the Farm Aid performance in September.

The upcoming shows with Young, however, are a different kind of event.

Rather than being festival appearances, the Bridgeport and Philadelphia concerts will feature Young & The Chrome Hearts and Willie Nelson & Family as co-headliners, giving both artists the opportunity to perform longer sets before they meet again at Farm Aid.

For Young, the shows also mark his return to the stage after his touring break.

Neil Young Is Returning to the Stage With The Chrome Hearts

Young formed The Chrome Hearts in 2024, with the group including musicians who had previously performed with him and his son, Micah Nelson.

The band has become Young’s primary touring group as he continues to perform outside of his long-running work with Crazy Horse.

The 2026 concerts will give Young a chance to return to full-scale touring alongside a group of musicians that has become an important part of his recent career.

And the timing makes the shows especially significant for longtime fans: Young will perform in Connecticut and Philadelphia just before appearing at one of the most important events of his career.
