Apple TV has unveiled a sprawling new cast for Murderbot season 2, with Michael Sheen, Steve Buscemi and Severance favourite Tramell Tillman among more than 20 stars joining the sci-fi hit.
Based on Martha Wells's The Murderbot Diaries novels, the series follows a rogue security android (played by Alexander Skarsgård) that has secretly hacked its own governor module.
As per Apple's synopsis, the bot is "horrified by human emotion yet drawn to its vulnerable clients" and must "find its way in a hostile universe when all it really wants is to be left alone to watch futuristic soap operas and figure out its place in the universe".
The debut episodes enjoyed positive reviews from critics, with Skarsgård earning a nomination for Best Actor in a Comedy Series at the Critics' Choice Awards (losing out to Apple TV colleague Seth Rogen, star of The Studio).
Sheen, the Welsh actor known for Good Omens, Prodigal Son and Staged, leads a group of high-profile new faces taking guest and recurring roles in Murderbot season 2 (as reported by Variety).
He is joined by Boardwalk Empire and Fargo legend Buscemi, plus rising star Tillman, best known for playing Mr Milchick in Apple's own Severance. Recently, he also joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Department of Damage Control boss Bill Metzger in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
Tillman isn't the only in-house Apple talent popping into Murderbot, with Brendan Hunt (aka Ted Lasso's iconic Coach Beard) also bagging a role in the next chapter.
Among the other big names are Succession star Nicholas Braun, stand-up comic and Ratatouille voice actor Patton Oswalt, That '70s Show alum Topher Grace, plus comedian Wanda Sykes, who recently starred in Netflix's The Upshaws.

You can also expect appearances from Ella Jay Basco (Birds of Prey), Etienne Beydon (In the Shadows), Griffin Newman (The Tick), Jason George (Grey's Anatomy), Maddy Strauss (The Regime), Marc Menchaca (Dutton Ranch), Martha Plimpton (Task), Meredith Salenger (Criminal Minds), musician Jaedynn Latter and newcomer Nia Otchere-Sarfo.
They join returnees from the Murderbot season 1 cast, such as Noma Dumezweni and David Dastmalchian. Chris and Paul Weitz adapted Wells's novels for the screen.
