PM urges Egyptian diplomats to promote Egypt’s investment opportunities

Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, called on Egypt’s newly nominated heads of diplomatic missions abroad to step up efforts to attract foreign investments, open new markets for Egyptian exports and promote tourism, as part of a broader role in supporting the national economy.

Madbouly made the remarks during a meeting with the diplomats at the government headquarters in New Alamein City, attended by Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty.

The prime minister congratulated the diplomats on their new assignments, expressing the state’s pride in the historical role of its diplomatic service in defending national interests and strengthening the country’s regional and international standing. The meeting followed recent celebrations marking 200 years since the establishment of Egypt’s foreign ministry.

Madbouly added that Egyptian diplomatic missions have an increasingly important role amid regional and international challenges, including protecting Egypt’s strategic interests, assisting Egyptians abroad and improving consular services.

He called for a stronger economic focus in the work of Egyptian missions, particularly in attracting foreign direct investments, increasing trade, finding new markets for Egyptian products and encouraging more tourists to visit the country.

Madbouly said that every Egyptian ambassador should effectively act as an “investment minister” in the country of assignment, promoting investment opportunities in Egypt, presenting projects to potential investors and explaining measures taken to improve the business environment.

He also urged diplomatic missions to help Egyptian companies enter and expand in international markets, particularly across Africa.

Additionally, the premier asked heads of missions to work on creating more opportunities abroad for skilled Egyptian workers. He pointed to Egypt’s expansion of technical education and applied technology schools, as well as partnerships with the private sector and other countries to prepare students for labor market needs.

For his part, Abdelatty said that competence is the primary criterion for selecting ambassadors and heads of missions, with a number of younger diplomats chosen for overseas assignments. He added that the performance of diplomatic missions would be assessed regularly.

The foreign minister added that Egyptian missions serve as the country’s first line of defense abroad, while protecting the interests of Egyptians overseas remains a major responsibility.

During the meeting, diplomats asked for detailed information about the investment opportunities they will promote abroad. Madbouly said an investment map containing details of available opportunities is being made available through the relevant ministries.
