AtkinsRéalis-Arup joint venture to use AI on Hong Kong contracts
A joint venture between Canada’s AtkinsRéalis and the UK’s Arup has won two contracts from Hong Kong’s Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD).

They will work on the first phase of the Lau Fau Shan development, set to be a digital technology eco-tourism destination in the Northern Metropolis, and the remaining phase of the Hung Shui Kiu/Ha Tsuen project, a regional commercial centre.

The projects include flood resilience, environmental enhancement, water, drainage and sewerage infrastructure for the revitalisation of the Tin Shui Wai River, which passes through the developments.

Arup will use an AI agent for construction programme management in the Hung Shui Kiu/Ha Tsuen second phase to consolidate and analyse planned construction activities across multiple contracts to allow for one-stop interface management.

Theresa Yeung, AtkinsRéalis’ managing principal in east Asia, said: “This area is complex, bringing together new communities, rural villages, sensitive natural landscapes and cutting-edge infrastructure.

“Drawing on the deep local knowledge, our commitment to community engagement and nature, and the digital and AI tools we have pioneered here, we look forward to working hand in hand with CEDD, AtkinsRéalis and the wider community to unlock lasting value for this area and the city."

Wing Law, AtkinsRéalis chief executive in Asia, said: “The Northern Metropolis presents a generational opportunity to shape how Hong Kong grows and evolves.

“This appointment demonstrates how infrastructure can strengthen connections between communities, enhance environmental resilience and create economic opportunity through urban-rural integration, river revitalisation and climate resilience.”
