Bears Bits: Quick Practice Before Cincy, Reading Material, More

With a trip to Cincinnati on deck, the Chicago Bears had a shorter practice at Halas Hall on Wednesday, lasting about 45 minutes. Bears head coach Ben Johnson even tossed a couple of veteran days off to defensive lineman Grady Jarrett and left guard Joe Thuney.

Caleb Williams turned in a solid day in the shorter practice, going 4-5 with three touchdowns in a 7-on-7 red zone period, according to Mason Williams on X. Two of Williams’ three touchdowns in that period went to wide receiver Rome Odunze. Rookie Dillon Thieneman got the last laugh, though, intercepting Williams in a game-winning two-point conversion scenario to end Wednesday’s practice. The Thieneman interception feels like a good time to share this on him from Rome Odunze on Tuesday: “I see his speed and every time he gets to the ball … You see that his name gets to 22 mph on the speed board day in and day out… The game is slowing down for him a good bit, and he’s seeing things a lot quicker … he’s been impressive.” Elsewhere at camp, Kiran Amegadjie—who left Tuesday’s practice early—was back on the field today. ESPN’s Courtney Cronin shared some video of Ozzy Trapilo getting work in during individual drills:

    — Courtney Cronin (@CourtneyRCronin) August 19, 2026 Absent from Wednesday’s practice was backup quarterback Tyson Bagent, who is dealing with a hamstring injury suffered in the Cleveland game. Bagent is trending toward not playing this weekend in Cincinnati, which means a steady diet of Case Keenum and Miller Moss is likely on deck for the Bears. According to Bears.com’s Larry Mayer, Keenum followed up Williams performance with a 4-of-5 red zone drill, completing passes to Zavion Thomas, Salvon Ahmed, Hayden Large, and JP Richardson. Miller Moss closed the drill with a touchdown pass to wide receiver Omari Kelly in the left corner of the end zone.
