While we wait for news on who will be playing the next iteration of James Bond, one of the franchise's former stars, Pierce Brosnan, has been cast in the next instalment of another action film series.
According to Deadline, Brosnan has joined the cast Extraction 3, the latest entry in the Netflix franchise starring Chris Hemsworth. He will be joining Hemsworth, along with other returning stars Idris Elba and Golshifteh Farahani.
Meanwhile, other new cast members joining the film include Don Lee (Train to Busan), Joe Taslim (The Furious), Chi Lewis-Parry (28 Years Later: The Bone Temple) and Siena Agudong (Carrie).
Details of the film's plot and the new characters (other than Lee's) are currently being kept under wraps, while filming is currently taking place in Australia.
Director Sam Hargrave, who was behind the first two films, has returned, while David Weil has written the script, based on a story by Ande Parks and the Russo Brothers.
In the Extraction franchise, Hemsworth plays a black ops mercenary, Tyler Rake. At the end of the second film, he and Farahani's Nik were about to be assigned to a new mission.
An eight episode spin-off series to Extraction is also on the way, titled Mercenary: An Extraction Series. That will star Omar Sy, Boyd Holbrook and Natalie Dormer, and will be set in the same universe.
Additionally, a spin-off film, titled Tygo, has already been filmed. It will be set in South Korea and star Lee is the title character, a role he will carry over into Extraction 3.
Brosnan played Bond in four films from 1995 to 2002, and has more recently been seen in movies including The Thursday Murder Club and Giant.
He also stars in the Paramount+ series MobLand, alongside Helen Mirren and Tom Hardy. That show will soon be returning for its second season, with a second full length trailer having recently been unveiled.
