First Alert Weather: Skies are clearing but mugginess lingers through Monday evening

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – As a cold front moves into the eastern portion of New York state, skies are clearing across Rochester and along Lake Ontario. Any plans you may have around Rochester, to the shore of Lake Ontario, into the Southern Tier are expected to stay dry for the dinner hour. A small, brief shower may develop after 9:00 pm in Wayne County and down into the Southern Tier. Though a bit muggy still, dew points have improved considerably from Monday morning. Dew points will stay between 60 and 65 degrees through Monday night before dropping into the 50s on Tuesday. Monday night low temperatures will reach near 60 degrees with winds out of the north between 5 to 10 mph. Clearing skies and light winds may allow for valley fog to form in the western Southern Tier, Finger Lakes and east of Lake Ontario.

High pressure moves in Tuesday which will suppress most rain showers. However, wrap-around moisture from the surface low-pressure to our north will keep 15% rain chances on for Tuesday. The best chance for a morning sprinkle is along the southeast shore of Lake Ontario and the eastern Finger Lakes. High temperatures on Tuesday will near 80 degrees with winds starting out of the north in the morning and shifting out of the west in the evening. Sustained winds are expected to stay between 5 to 10 mph. Evening outdoor plans are expected to stay dry into Tuesday evening.

Scattered showers and storms are possible Wednesday morning, especially along the southern shore of Lake Ontario and east of the Lake Erie shore. These storms are expected to slowly shift south and east through the day, becoming more isolated in nature through the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes in the afternoon and evening. Current data continues to show that these storms will not carry an elevated risk of winds, flooding, or strong storms. For now, we stay green on the Threat Tracker for Wednesday.

Moving into the following week, no major warmup is forecasted. Actually, temperatures continue to stay a little below average. On average, Rochester sits around 81 degrees for this time of the year, but daytime high temperatures through next week will sit in the mid to upper 70s.
