Vigil season 3 release date confirmed by BBC as first-look trailer unveiled with Suranne Jones and Rose Leslie

The BBC have unveiled an exciting new trailer for the upcoming third season of Vigil – and it promises to be yet another gripping instalment.

Returning to head up the new series are Suranne Jones and Rose Leslie, who are taking on the Arctic as they're tasked with investigating the murder of a British special forces officer.

Along with the trailer, it's also been announced that the series will debut sooner rather than later, with season 3 set to premiere over the August bank holiday weekend.

The series will launch on BBC One and iPlayer on Sunday 30 August, with the first two episodes available to stream from 6am that day and then episode 1 airing on terrestrial TV at 9pm that evening, followed by episode 2 the following Monday night.

In the trailer, we see how DCI Amy Silva (Jones) and DI Kirsten Longacre (Leslie) are pulled into the investigation at hand, seeing first-hand where a British officer was shot dead in a Russian enclave. But things start coming to light that make them wonder just who is to blame for the crime. As Kirsten says: "If the Russians didn't kill Hodge, who did?"

We then see how Jeppe Beck Laursen's (The Trip) character, Svalbard’s Chief of Police Henrick Becken, says that this "needs to stay a police matter". But as we get a series of tense montages of explosions, high speed car chases and more, it becomes all too clear that Amy may not be able to trust anyone.
