The Severance star recently shared a hilarious story about his daughter, who was taking part in an acting program in New York this summer while Scott was in the city filming Season 3 of the series. As reported by PEOPLE, during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Scott explained that one of his daughter’s teachers decided to show the class his audition for The Office. There was just one problem: Scott didn’t get the part.
The teacher followed Scott’s audition with John Krasinski’s successful audition for the role of Jim Halpert and asked the students to discuss why Krasinski got the job and Scott didn’t. “He had no idea,” Scott said. Although he could appreciate the absurdity of the situation, his daughter apparently wanted to disappear. “She was mortified,” he said.
Things got even more awkward when after class, the teacher stopped her and asked whether she knew either actor. He eventually put together the connection between her last name and Scott and realized exactly whose audition he’d just used as an example. According to Scott, the teacher “felt terrible.”
But perhaps his daughter can take some comfort in knowing that her dad’s career turned out well anyway. Krasinski went on to play Jim on The Office from 2005 to 2013, while Scott found another beloved workplace comedy in Parks and Recreation, where he played Ben Wyatt alongside Amy Poehler.
And Scott has apparently experienced another very relatable parent problem: his own kids aren’t particularly interested in watching some of his biggest shows. He’s previously joked that his children watched The Office and Brooklyn Nine-Nine but somehow skipped Parks and Recreation, despite his repeated assurances that they’d love it.
They eventually started watching Severance, giving Scott the consolation that he could “at least” count them as viewers. So yes, even when your dad is Adam Scott, he can still embarrass you in front of your classmates. Maybe that’s the great equalizer of parenthood.
