ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The 15th Annual Walk Against Domestic Violence took place in Rochester on Saturday. It was at the Maplewood Rose Garden. People walked a one-mile loop to raise awareness.
Organizers said the turnout was incredible. The purpose of the walk is to shine a light on domestic violence survivors and those who may not speak up.
News10NBC asked the founder how long she will stay in this role. “A promise that I made to the Lord. I’m going to keep on doing this until he tells me to stop. And I keep on doing it until he tells me to stop,” said Lucila Matos.
The message on Saturday was that love should be something beautiful and safe, not dangerous.
The first 200 registered participants received a free T-shirt. There was also a free picnic lunch.
