Selena Gomez is pushing back against allegations of fraud tied to Wondermind, the mental health company she co-founded alongside her mother Mandy Teefey and former business partner Daniella Pierson.
“The allegations that Selena Gomez engaged in any way whatsoever in any purported ‘fraud’ or other wrongdoing are completely meritless, both factually and legally. We will vigorously defend these false allegations and indeed are filing a motion to dismiss the baseless claims against her,” Gomez’s litigator, Mathew S. Rosengart, told People in a statement.
Earlier this week, Wondermind SRS 44 LLC and Bespoke Wondermind LLC sued Gomez, Teefey, and Pierson. They claimed the trio “falsely represented” the companies’ infrastructure, leadership, and resources, based on legal docs obtained by People.
Investors allegedly put almost $1.2 million into the startup. They say they weren’t told that Wondermind was struggling and instead watched as it “quietly collapsed around them.” They claim they found out about the issues in a story in The Cut, which quoted anonymous former employees who disproved Teefey as CEO.
Teefey has yet to comment on the lawsuit. Pierson, who served as co-CEO alongside Teefey issued a statement to The New York Times that she “categorically” denied the claims.
