ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Rochester Police are investigating the fire that took place on Lyell Avenue in June as an arson.

The five-alarm fire broke out at a wooden pallet manufacturing business, Pallet Express, on June 7. The fire caused more than 400 RG&E customers to lose power. The fire raised questions about safety and materials.

Days after the fire, News10NBC Chief Investigative Reporter Berkeley Brean visited the edge of the property where hot spots continued to smolder.

Recently, the City of Rochester filed a petition to the state Supreme Court in Monroe County asking for another warehouse on Buffalo Road owned by Pallet Express to be vacated. The city says it poses a fire and safety risk, and it doesn’t want a repeat of what happened on Lyell Avenue.

Police say although there has been some indication the fire was electrical, they say their preliminary investigation “does not support this theory.”
