Bangladesh man pleads guilty to role in fraud conspiracy that targeted 2 WNY senior citizens

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) — A man from Bangladesh has pleaded guilty to his role in fraud conspiracy, which targeted two senior citizens in Western New York.

Iftekhar Latif Nieon, 24, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud. In 2025, federal prosecutors say Nieon worked with the others to commit wire fraud against three victims.

    In one of those cases, prosecutors say Nieon and his co-conspirators pretended to be from the “Geek Squad” to get a 73-year-old man from Western New York to give them $28,000.

    In the other case, prosecutors say Nieon and his co-conspirators got a 68-year-old woman from Western New York to send them $19,500.

    Nieon is set to be sentenced on Nov. 30.
