ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Rain put a damper on the viewing of our partial solar eclipse Wednesday afternoon near Rochester, but some of us saw glimpses of it through broken clouds. The heaviest and steadiest rain will be moving out and the rest of the work week will be much quieter and drier. We’ll see some clearing overnight, which means there’s the chance we could see some meteors tonight as the Perseid meteor shower peaks. If you want to try to check it, get away from city lights if possible, turn off house lights and just try to make it as dark as you can. Let your eyes adjust to the dark for about 10 minutes, and look up! If clouds stick around too much tonight, you can still see some meteors Thursday night, but the peak is Wednesday night.
Thursday will feature a mix of clouds and sunshine, and mainly dry weather. Outside of a few pop up afternoon showers, expect dry and nice weather Thursday. That’ll continue into Friday, as well. Temperatures on Thursday should reach near 80, with mid 70s on Friday. Some elevated wildfire smoke will stick around on Thursday, though it’ll tend to shift a little further south, with a clearer sky closer to Rochester and more smoke south of 5&20.
The weekend will start off nice, with dry weather and a good deal of sunshine on Saturday. Highs will be in the mid 70s again on Saturday with low humidity. Sunday looks like it’ll start dry but end wet. Rain and some thunder will make a return heading into the afternoon and evening. That rain will taper overnight, with a few showers lingering into Monday morning next week.
