The Chicago area is once again facing numerous tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings, with the potential for tornadoes and damaging straight line winds along a bowing line of storms Wednesday.
A tornado warning was issued for northern LaSalle County until 9:15 a.m., with the National Weather Service warning of severe thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes and extensive straight line wind damage.
A severe thunderstorm watch was issued for nearly the entire Chicago area until 1 p.m. That includes DeKalb, LaSalle, Grundy, Kankakee, Kendall, Will, Cook, DuPage and Kane counties in Illinois and Newton, Lake, Porter and Jasper in northwest Indiana.
A severe thunderstorm warning was also issued for LaSalle and DeKalb counties until 9:45 a.m. Another was issued for Kendall, Grundy and southern Kane County until 10 a.m.
NBC 5’s Interactive Radar is capturing the scene as the storm system approaches the area.
The bowing line of the storms threatens to once again bring damaging straight line winds of up to 70 mph.
“I know at this point a lot of people are skittish as far as the warnings go, with all the warnings that we’ve had pretty much all summer long,” Storm Team 5 Meteorologist Pete Sack said. “But it’s important to heed the advice of these.”
