ROCHESTER, N.Y. — The City of Rochester wants your help. Teaming with the United Christian Leadership Ministry of Western New York, the city is looking for people to join Rochester’s Civilian Public Safety Interview Panel.
The panel is volunteer-run and the city says it plays a role in which men and women are hired at the Rochester Police Department officers. Panel members conduct group interviews with recruits to learn their opinions on race, culture, policing, and to explore their knowledge of the City of Rochester.
After the interview, the panel shares impressions with the Rochester Police Command staff and the Police Chief, so they can make hiring decisions.
“Our officers serve our community, and so we value community voices in selecting the next officers to join our Police force,” Smith said.
Requirements
If you want to participate, you have to meet the requirements below:
Live in the City of Rochester 21 years old and up Be regularly available during business hours Pass a background check Have a high school diploma or GED at minimum Be willing to serve a two-year term Complete the RPD Citizen’s Police Academy and Implicit Bias TrainingThe deadline for this round of applicants is Aug. 21, 2026, but applications are considered on a rolling basis. Training is provided.
