The Chicago Bears are hoping for big things from wide receiver Luther Burden III in his second year, but he’ll have to overcome some adversity first.
According to multiple reports, including from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Burden is expected to miss the team’s entire preseason schedule after suffering a groin injury during practice on Saturday.
That would mean Burden would miss the team’s three exhibition games against the Cleveland Browns, Cincinnati Bengals and Tennessee Titans, but Schefter and others are reporting the team is hoping to get Burden back for their regular season opener against the Carolina Panthers in September.
Burden’s stock is on the rise with his performance so far in training camp, and the Bears are hoping he’ll take on a bigger role in their offense in his sophomore season, especially after trading DJ Moore to the Buffalo Bills.
Burden was a second-round pick of the Bears last season, registering 47 catches for 652 yards and two touchdowns in 15 games during his rookie campaign.
He also had six catches for 66 yards in the team’s two playoff games.
The Bears will open their preseason slate against the Browns on Saturday at Soldier Field, with kickoff set for noon.
