ZZ Top drummer Frank Beard is reportedly facing serious health problems that have already begun affecting the legendary rock band's tour.
Beard, 77, was absent when ZZ Top performed in Saratoga, California, on Saturday, August 8, with Michael Monahan filling in behind the drums. TMZ reported that Beard is currently dealing with "serious health issues," though the exact nature of his condition has not been disclosed.
The band also abruptly canceled its August 5 performance at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. At the time, the band didn't disclose Beard's condition, instead attributing the cancellation to circumstances it couldn't overcome.
“Insurmountable obstacles require canceling our Hollywood Bowl performance,” frontman Billy F Gibbons said in a statement shared to the band’s Instagram page. “Friends, fans and followers of ZZ Top are the best in the business and the band is counting on everyone to bear with us for this brief interruption.”
Sources have since told TMZ that Beard's health was behind the cancellation.

Beard has been behind the drums for ZZ Top since 1969, alongside Gibbons and late bassist Dusty Hill. The Texas rockers found success in the '70s with songs including “La Grange” and “Tush” before reaching a new generation during the MTV era with hits like “Gimme All Your Lovin'” and “Legs.”
Hill died in 2021 and was replaced by longtime guitar tech Elwood Francis. ZZ Top was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004.
For now, the band's The Big One! tour is still scheduled to continue through October 9, with its next performance set for 11 in Redmond, Washington.
