The season 8 finalists recently put their dancing skills to the test in a new video, jokingly auditioning for a spot in the global girl group KATSEYE. In the brief clip, Aniya and Melanie bust out some choreography from the group’s song “Gnarly.”
“Our tryout to be new members of katseye!!!” was the caption of the clip.
While the audition may be humorous and unofficial, the two reality stars certainly have the confidence for the job. Aniya and Melanie became close during their time on Love Island USA Season 8, which wrapped in July after six weeks of romance and drama in the Fiji villa. The pair both made it to the finale with their respective partners, with Aniya and Carl Schmidt finishing as runners-up and Melanie and Sincere Rhea taking third place.
Now that they’re officially out of the villa, it seems the Islanders are having a little fun with their newfound fame. Honestly, what better way to do that than learn some KATSEYE dance routines and pretend to audition for one of the biggest girl groups in the world?
KATSEYE, which was formed through HYBE and Geffen Records’ Dream Academy competition, has become known for its choreography and viral performances, especially the Billboard Hot 100 hit “Gnarly.” In February, KATSEYE member Manon announced she would be taking a hiatus from the group; in early August, KATSEYE’s Sophia announced she was taking a hiatus as well.
While there’s no indication that Aniya and Melanie are actually pursuing spots in the group, the Love Island USA girls clearly had fun giving the choreography a try. Their “audition” may have lasted a few seconds, but it was enough to spark a playful crossover between two of the internet’s current pop-culture obsessions.
