Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, 45, and her husband, Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, 41, hit the red carpet to attend the David Foster Foundation's 40th Anniversary Celebration in Victoria, British Columbia, on Friday. Smiling brightly in a one-shoulder dress, Markle's stunning presence came amid a bit of controversy over statements shared by domestic goddess Martha Stewart.

What Did Martha Stewart Say About Meghan Markle?

Stewart, 85, a legendary entrepreneur, opened up in a revealing new interview about a recent event she attended where Markle was also spotted. But the Martha Stewart Living tycoon had a few thoughts when asked about Markle’s culinary endeavors.
“I had dinner with Meghan Markle the other night. We were both guests at a dinner party in California. And she had just gotten back from the palace. I didn’t talk to her really more than to say a couple words, but I know she was talking about it,” Stewart told PEOPLE.
When asked what she thought of Markle stepping into the cooking show space, Stewart didn’t mince words.
“If you’re an actress, it’s hard to then transition to a princess and then from a princess into a homemaking guru on a television show. It doesn’t sort of follow. So go from there,” Stewart continued, referring to Markle’s Netflix show, With Love, Meghan.
Despite what Stewart said, a source who attended the same party said that Stewart's claims that Markle was speaking about the palace were untrue.
“I sat next to Meghan at the dinner party, and this account of what happened is simply untrue,” the source told PEOPLE. “Meghan didn’t talk about her European vacation other than to say the family had a great time.”
The source added that “Meghan has always been a fan of Martha’s and enjoyed getting to meet her briefly at the dinner."
Stewart Has Spoken About Markle Before
Last summer, Stewart shared her thoughts on Markle during another interview.
“Meghan, I don’t really know very well, and I hope she knows what she’s talking about,” Martha told Yahoo Lifestyle. “Authenticity, to me, is everything, and to be authentic and knowledgeable about your subject matter is extremely important.”
Still, Stewart made it clear that there’s plenty of space in the market for her successors.
“I don’t mind. Good luck,” she noted.
