A 9-year-old child and two adults are missing after they disappeared during a tubing trip in Michigan, police said.
Authorities said two 28-year-old women and a 9-year-old were believed to have been tubing on the Muskegon River, but when they didn’t return, the father of one of the women went looking. He discovered her vehicle at the Maple Island Boat Launch — with a window broken out.
Family members said they haven’t been able to contact the group since.
Police identified the group as 28-year-old Jazzmin Hock, of Muskegon; 28-year-old Sarah Vida, of Muskegon; and 9-year-old Kayden Kovalcik.
Authorities said an investigation is underway as the three have now been missing for more than 24 hours and troopers are searching the area.
The search began Wednesday evening and was ongoing as of Thursday evening.
The trio were believed to be using orange and pink tube, which have been found by authorities.
“At this time, investigators can confirm that two inflatable tubes, believed to be those used by the missing individuals, have been located. Search teams have also identified footprints that are being evaluated as part of the ongoing investigation,” police said Thursday. “Since this incident was reported, search and rescue personnel have been working continuously utilizing ground, water, and aerial resources. Search efforts remain active, and investigators are following all available leads.”
Police asked the public to stay away from the active search areas.
