There will also be timed final heats of the girls’ 1500 free and boys’ 800 free in the afternoon before the fastest seeded heats swim at finals.
In the girls’ 200 IM, Gabi Brito will be in the field after scratching the rest of her individual events this week — including this morning’s 50 free — though she has led Beach Cities Alpha to two relay titles and one runner-up finish during the meet.
Brito is the #2 seed in the 200 IM, trailing Canyons Aquatic Club’s Emma Hussein, who owns a best time of 2:16.06 from May and went 2:17.67 last week at Nationals. Brito owns a faster PB, having been 2:15.61 last year, and she’s been 2:16.95 so far this season.
In the boys’ 200 IM, Syunta Lee is the big favorite after winning the 400 IM earlier in the week. The 16-year-old set a new lifetime best of 2:02.11 in the 200 IM last week.
The girls’ 50 free field is highlighted by Adalynn Biegler, who won the 100 free on Tuesday, and Stella Canoles, who comes in as the top seed at 25.47, which is the personal best she set en route to a 4th-place finish last year.
Defending champion Brody Chandler will be the swimmer to beat in the boys’ 50 free, as the 18-year-old Tennessee commit won the event last year in 22.52 and reset his PB last week in a time of 22.38. He also won the 100 free earlier in the meet in a personal best time of 49.77.
