The Kovenant, the industrial and gothic metal veterans, are ending their decades-long studio drought with new music.
Twenty-three years after releasing its last studio album, S.E.T.I. (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence), the group has hinted at what fans can expect from its new record.
In an interview with Australia's Everblack podcast, lead vocalist and founder Nagash, whose real name is Stian Arnesen, confirmed the band has a "new album" and already has "eight songs ready" for its upcoming fifth full-length record.
"So two more and we have 10, and then we're going to the studio hopefully by the end of this year," he shared, as quoted by Blabbermouth.
Nagash wanted to keep details under wraps, telling fans they would have to "wait and see and hear it."
However, he teased what they can expect from the band's long-awaited album.
"Everyone asks that. I would say it's a mix of all the albums, plus new stuff," he revealed. "That's the best thing I can say for now. There's some stuff that sounds kinda like 'S.E.T.I.' mixed with 'Nexus Polaris', and then there's other stuff that sounds like something from the first album. There's some 'Animatronic'-type-ish songs. To me, it sounds more metal than it used to."
Before the announcement of the soon-to-be-released record, The Kovenant had been largely inactive for about two decades.

It was in 2024 that the band reunited, marking its first live performance in two decades at the Eindhoven Metal Meeting. The reunion was followed by additional appearances and a touring run throughout 2025.
As Nagash continued his interview on the Everblack podcast, he revealed that the reunion was intended for "a couple of festivals" only.
"But we had so much fun and enjoyed playing together again," the frontman admitted, adding, "And we always had a good connection and stuff. And [we] also [have] two new members, two new guitarists, one from MAYHEM, one from ARCTURUS."
Currently, Nagash is joined by Hellhammer on drums, Steinar "Sverd" Johnsen on keyboards, Sarah Jezebel Deva on vocals and newest members Charles Hedger, a.k.a. Ghul and Knut Magne Valle on guitars.
