The World Cup and Wimbledon may be over, but further sports coverage is about to disrupt scheduled editions of Coronation Street and Emmerdale.
The soaps usually air in what ITV dub as a "power hour", each weekday evening at 8pm. This new time slot was introduced to provide consistency and to help navigate the disruption that the footy causes annually.
However, since then, both serial dramas have been repeatedly shifted to accommodate other programmes.
Today (Friday 7 August) is no exception, as the broadcaster will air coverage of the EFL Cup Live. Mark Pougatch presents coverage of the Middlesbrough v Wrexham match from the Riverside Stadium at 7pm, with kick-off an hour later at 8pm.

There's an explosive confrontation between Dr Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker) and Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) in Emmerdale, which is overheard by an unsuspecting villager.
Meanwhile, Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle) reveals to ex-wife Dawn (Olivia Bromley) that her husband-to-be Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) was the one who attacked him, and together they plan to flee the village.

Emmerdale usually airs weeknights at 8pm and Coronation Street usually airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1. Both can be streamed from 7am that day on ITVX.
