IKEA Heard Your ‘Wicker’ Jokes and Turned Alexander Skarsgård’s Internet Thirst Into a Clever Ad

The internet's obsession with Alexander Skarsgård (Murderbot) starring in Wicker as its leading man, magically made out of, well...the pliable wood material to suit his wife, played by Olivia Coleman (The Bear), continues to intensify.

Naturally, the Wicker trailer, which features Skarsgård in all his Wicker husband glory, has caused a stir. Somehow, even made out of sentient outdoor furniture, Skarsgård is still very much a walking thirst trap. And we have Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), who plays the film's basket weaver, and the incredible work of the Wētā Workshop, which built the finely detailed practical suit, to thank.

The online frenzy has brought out the most unhinged reactions, especially if you glance at the comments on YouTube. One reads: "50 Shades of Pinocchio," and another: "I love that Peter Dinklage's character is asked to make a Cottagecore Frankenstein and immediately says '"'say less". And there are so many more which might scandalize, along the lines of: "They took 'smash a tree' to a whole different level!!!!!" but of course inevitably IKEA got dragged into it.

Will be a missed opportunity if IKEA doesn't release a spring '27 indoor/outdoor wicker chair called the SKARSGÅRD.

So of course, to plant itself in firm solidarity with their fellow Swede icon, IKEA released an ad for their TOLKNING handmade rattan bench ready to be sat on with the words “made from husband material” and a clever caption that read: “if you know, you know." Black Bear Pictures, the indie studio behind the film, reshared the post below:

What a moment to really lean into for the brand, as fans express their delight at IKEA being game to join the Wicker fun. Now we really do fully expect some collaboration or even Skarsgård to rate the wicker furniture at the popular living space destination to the tune of Taylor Swift's "Wood".

Wicker is set for release on October 23, 2026. To see Skarsgård flex his fibers and understand why the internet is in a tizzy, you need to watch the trailer:
