Twisted surgeon Dr Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker) has staged a return to Emmerdale.

For months, Charity Dingle's (Emma Atkins) blackmailer and rapist has lived a relatively quiet life in Sheffield, evading justice for her crimes and living on the thousands of pounds she syphoned out of her victim.

During her absence, Charity has confided in a small number of close friends and family about her difficult situation. Husband Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) was forced to accept that she'd cheated on him and fell pregnant with Ross Barton's (Michael Parr) child while trying to act as surrogate for her granddaughter Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill).

Oblivious Sarah is now raising her own aunt, believing that she's her daughter.

Todd was using this information against Charity, and despite the betrayal, Mack has vowed to help her. There's also been intervention from Vanessa Woodfield (Michelle Hardwick), who was sickened to learn what her former partner Todd was capable of.

The last time we saw the GP was when Mack challenged her at the new hospital she was working at. The conclusion of that episode provided an intriguing flash-forward scene, which revealed that Todd would eventually die.

In today's episode, Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) was attending a training session in Sheffield and bumped into Todd. She noted that they'd lost contact after she left Emmerdale, and invited her for lunch.

Following the meal, it became apparent that Manpreet had drank too much and needed dropping home. Todd couldn't resist the urge to stoke the fire and arrive back at the scene of her crimes.

Vanessa spotted her from across the road and launched a verbal attack, enraged by the fact she would have the audacity to return.

Enraged by the confrontation, Todd decided to stick around and face-off with Charity again. She let herself into Jacob's Fold and awaited her return.

This will lead into a dramatic showdown later in the week, and another resident finding out about Todd's wrongdoings.

Could this also be when she meets her grisly end?
