Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty participated on Wednesday, Wednesday 5, 2026, in the fifth meeting grouping the Foreign Ministers of the Quadrilateral Group (R-4 Group) comprising Turkey, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia besides Egypt.
Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, and Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud were present at the meeting.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting on Jerusalem in the Jordanian capital, Amman.
The talks addressed regional developments amid the military escalation in the region and efforts to reduce tensions and achieve de-escalation, particularly regarding the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.
The ministers stressed the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation in the strait as a key pillar of global economic stability and international trade security.
They also highlighted the importance of returning to the memorandum of understanding signed between the United States and Iran on June 18, 2026, and supporting efforts to reach a sustainable agreement that enhances regional security and stability while preventing further escalation and tensions.
During the meeting, the ministers reaffirmed the centrality of the Palestinian cause, stressing that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state and ending the occupation are indispensable foundations for achieving a just and comprehensive peace and should remain a goal for the entire international community.
The consultations also covered ways to enhance cooperation and coordination among the four countries within the quadrilateral mechanism, the future of regional security arrangements, and mechanisms to strengthen the framework’s effectiveness and ensure regular meetings at various levels to maintain consultations on issues of common regional interest.
