ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Humid air and unsettled weather has returned to western New York and will stick with us into the first half of the weekend. Some passing showers or even a downpour will move through overnight, clearing by Thursday morning. Thursday will see plenty of dry time, but will likely see another round of afternoon showers and a few isolated storms. It looks like the highest chance of some storms and downpours may be east of 390, with Lake Erie creating a somewhat more stable atmosphere just east of it. Dew points in the lower 70s means we have plenty of moisture in the atmosphere, thus any showers that form will likely produce downpours. A few storms are possible, as well, mainly during the afternoon hours.
Friday will also feature another round of scattered showers and a few storms. The timing is difficult to pinpoint, but we may see an earlier start time – midday into the early afternoon hours. Once again, a few storms are possible with downpours and locally heavy rain. Severe weather and flooding aren’t expected, so we’re staying “green” on the Threat Tracker, but be prepared for a little wet weather and passing storms through Friday.
The weekend will start off the same way – with more scattered showers and a few thundery downpours. Humidity remains high on Saturday, and the peak of storm activity will tend to be during the afternoon when peak heating occurs. Sunday looks like we’ll see a drying trend, with mainly dry weather and lower humidity as dew points fall behind a cold front. So, if you have plans to go to the air show or other outdoor plans, Sunday looks like the better day.
