Day three of the 2026 US Junior National Championships is about to get underway, and with it, six events on the early slate; including the 200 backstroke, 100 butterfly, and 400 freestyle.
Kicking us off will be the girls 200 backstroke, with top seed Lane Francis leading the way as the top seed for the girls race, and the lone entry time under 2:12 in 2:11.11, just behind her is the only other swimmer entered under 2:13, that being Schroeder Swim Team’s Maggie Dickinson in 2:12.24. The boys’ race is spearheaded by Brayden Capen in 1:59.02, he comes into this event with the fastest entry time in the field by more than two and a half seconds.
We then move into the shortest race of the prelims with the 100 fly, as a pair of 59s lead the girls event with Lucy Velte (59.59), Caroline Mallard (59.61), and Emma Grace Richardson (59.64) lead the way, looking to hold off a hungry and deep field, hoping to leapfrog themselves into the championship final. Charles Howard will look to maintain his position as top seed for the boys 100 fly, leading the entries here with his 53.31.
Our final race of the heats comes in the 400 free, as Alex Siegel and her 4:13.56 entry time makes her an early favorite, leading the event on the heat sheet by more than two and a half seconds over her competition. The men’s race is set to be a tight one this morning, as Andrew Maksymowski and Connor Christopherson each will aim to to one another, as they enter these prelims with the top two times of 3:55.65 and 3:55.83, separated by less than two tenths.
