Dancing With the Stars Season 35 is just weeks away and we already have our first bit of drama.
Longtime pro dancer Gleb Savchenko has released a statement months after Season 35 cast member Maura Higgins said that she did not want to be partnered with him.
"Until I was asked to comment on this story, I’d genuinely never heard of Maura, so I was quite surprised to learn she’d spoken about me so negatively," he told People magazine. "We've never met, and she doesn’t know me personally, so it’s disappointing to be judged based on a one-sided version of events rather than the facts."
Savchenko's comments come after Higgins told E! News that she'd be "happy with anyone except Gleb."
"I don’t really like the way he speaks about women," Higgins continued, adding, "I don’t really want to spend all my time with someone like that. I’m like, no thank you."
She supported her statement by saying that she's "loyal" and "friends with" Brooks Nader, whom Savchenko was partnered with on Season 33. The two also dated, albeit briefly, and things didn't end on the best of terms. Nader reportedly suspected that Savchenko had cheated on her and she swiftly ended the relationship. Savchenko has denied stepping out on the model.
In addition to Higgins, Ciara Miller, Jackson Olson, and Guillermo Rodriguez have all been confirmed as contestants on the new season of the popular reality dancing competition. It's unknown who these celebrities will be partnered with when the season gets underway in a couple of weeks.
The full cast—including pros and stars—will be announced on the Sept. 2 episode of Good Morning America with the new season of Dancing With the Stars will premiere on Tuesday, Sept. 15.
