The Chicago Cubs will welcome a group of new players into the fold in coming days, and the team has announced jersey numbers for their trade acquisitions.
The Cubs were extremely busy ahead of the MLB trade deadline Monday, adding several new pitchers and a new outfielder to the mix as they try to reach the playoffs for the second consecutive year.
Starting pitcher Kevin Gausman was one of the biggest names the team landed, with two prospects heading back to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for the veteran hurler.
The Cubs have announced Gausman will wear the No. 12 jersey, which was last worn by Scott Kingery earlier this year. Several notable Cubs over the years have also worn the number, including Kyle Schwarber and Shawon Dunston.

Tyrone Taylor, who was also acquired from the Mets in the deal that saw Jefferson Rojas traded to New York, will wear No. 55. Bryse Wilson wore it earlier this season, and among the notable Cubs to wear the uniform was catcher Koyie Hill, who used it for parts of six seasons.
Holmes is still on the 60-day injured list but has made a rehab start in his efforts to return to the rotation, and he has a 2.39 ERA in nine starts this season.
Taylor has 10 home runs in 145 at-bats this season for the Mets. He has really hit left-handed pitchers hard, slashing .301/.311/.589 and hitting five home runs and six doubles in 73 at-bats against southpaws.
Finally, reliever Ryan Zeferjahn will wear No. 56 after being acquired from the Angels on Monday. He will follow fellow pitcher Vince Velasquez in wearing the number, which was also used by former Cubs closer Hector Rondon and former outfielder Brian McRae.
The hard-throwing right hander is under team control through 2031, and he’s had a solid season, with four saves and 75 strikeouts recorded in 51.2 innings, along with a 3.66 ERA.
The Cubs will be back on the field Tuesday night when they face Tarik Skubal and the Los Angeles Dodgers, with first pitch set for 7:05 p.m. at Wrigley Field.
