Another beloved Saturday Night Live alum is set to make their illustrious debut on the Great White Way.
Next month, Bowen Yang takes on the role of Mary Todd Lincoln in Tony-winning playwright Cole Escola's Oh, Mary! on Broadway.
The news broke earlier today, to much fanfare from dedicated fans of the production, which has been running in Broadway's Lyceum Theatre since 2024 (following a successful off-Broadway run starring Escola in the titular role).
Per Playbill, "Oh, Mary! is a dark comedy about a miserable, suffocated Mary Todd Lincoln in the weeks leading up to Abraham Lincoln’s assassination. Unrequited yearning, alcoholism and suppressed desires abound in this one-act play that finally examines the forgotten life and dreams of Mrs. Lincoln through the lens of an idiot."

Yang is set to succeed Hacks star Meg Stalter, who made her own debut in the role immediately after Maya Rudolph did the same. Jane Krakowski,Jinx Monsoon and Tituss Burgess have also played the part, but even before the major names started cycling through the cast, the show was a massive hit, with rush lines frequently extending down the block.

Yang takes the stage starting on Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2026, with a limited contract for 12 weeks. It's been a long time coming for the actor, who originally turned down the part when it was offered last summer, before finishing out his last half-season of SNL. “I was not going to take a Broadway debut without the utmost seriousness and gravitas and respect,” he told Vulture in a new interview. But when he saw the show after his final episode later that year, he realized he regretted letting the offer go.
Currently, Oh, Mary is set to play through July 10, 2027.
