In the video, Weinstein talks about how the universal swimmer experience of pushing through tiredness, fatigue, and even illness ‘trained’ her to ‘endure everything and keep going,’ meaning she ignored the early symptoms of the disease.

“I can pin the start of the symptoms…way before any extreme happened, and honestly I looked back and even when I started to have the extreme symptoms at the (Pro Swim Series) meet in Sacramento, I was convincing myself almost that I was overreacting and that it was just a headache,” she said. “And honestly I went to the ER and they told me that, they said it was a migraine and that I was dehydrated. So that kind of reinforced that I was overreacting, and like, it’s not as bad as it was.”

After withdrawing from the Sacramento Pro Swim, Weinstein spent three weeks in the hospital seeking a diagnosis and then receiving treatment.

“Coming back from this has been the most humbling thing I’ve ever gone through honestly. And it just makes me value my health so much. I’ll just never take for granted a really, really hard practice, because when I was laying in that hospital bed…almost unable to get up on my own, the only thing that I wanted to do, was like ’30x100s max effort,’ because I missed my body being able to endure that and I missed being able to push myself to that level.”

At Nationals, Weinstein finished 45th in the 50 free (26.14) and 21st in the 100 free (55.45). Her best times in those events are 25.53 and 53.72, respectively. She said before the meet that she was planning to use Nationals as a test of her mere two weeks back in full training, but ultimately decided she couldn’t be fit in time for Pan Pacs.

Weinstein was scheduled to race as part of the U.S. roster at the 2026 Pan Pac Championships in the 200 free, 400 free, 800 free, and 1500 free.

The deadline to replace her on the Team USA roster was July 27, meaning USA Swimming will proceed with the roster as previously announced, minus Weinstein.
