NEWARK, N.Y. — The Village of Newark and Alex Eligh Community Center have announced the building plans for a regional health and wellness campus, which is part of a regional revitalization effort in Wayne County. The cost of the project is estimated to be $22 million.
The campus will be called the “ESL Health and Wellness Campus” for 25 years after ESL secured naming rights. The naming rights cost ESL $ 2 million. The campus will be located between Van Buren Street and Siegrist Street, with two buildings already planned for the property.
The first building is expected to be completed in 2027, and will house Lattimore Physical Therapy. The second building will be called the “Alex Eligh Community Center” (AECC) and will include: a 6-lane indoor track and field event space, an indoor turf field for soccer, lacrosse, and multi-sport training, several courts for basketball, volleyball, and pickleball, fitness equipment, multi-purpose rooms for senior wellness, youth activities and community events, and dedicated school-aged child care and after-school program space. The second building is expected to be completed in 2028.
The project organizers are looking for additional funding for the campus.
