Emmerdale boss Laura Shaw reveals 5 spoilers for the year ahead - and huge detail on new Tate family member

Series producer of Emmerdale, Laura Shaw, has teased what lies ahead in the ITV soap over the coming months and into 2027.

It's looking like an explosive summer for the village residents, but what lies beyond that?

"Joe Tate and Dawn Fletcher (Ned Porteous and Olivia Bromley) - obviously, they've got a massive story coming up," she told Radio Times, referring to their forthcoming wedding.

"As for the Dingles, there's going to be lots going on there within that family. The Miligans are going to be getting involved. A few fingers in a few pies for those guys and are going to try and build their empire a little bit."

She continued: "We've got some quite dark gothic storylines coming up. There's some comedy as well. I mean, it's a whole mix. That's what soap is about, isn't it?

"The dramatic, gothic stuff is up at Home Farm, which feels like the right precinct for those sort of stories. But we've also got some brilliant comedy from Kev and Lewis Barton (Chris Coghill and Bradley Riches)."

So how about everybody else? Here's 5 things that you can expect to see, plus a cheeky insight into who the new member of the Tate clan might be.

Sadie King's arrival rocks the King family

Jimmy and Nicola King (Nick Miles and Nicola Wheeler) are set to have their worlds turned upside down following the return of his ex-wife Sadie (Patsy Kensit). To make matters worse, she's carrying a long-buried secret too.

Shaw explained: "I think as soon as somebody mentioned Sadie King's name out loud, I was just like, 'Absolutely yes.' I loved her when she was in the show before.

"Patsy's an absolutely amazing actress and so lovely to have around the building. She's an absolute delight, and she looks amazing on camera as well.

"Those kind of classic, glamorous soap bits. You don't get many people like that in soap anymore. So it's been great to have that back."

She continued: "But she doesn't feel old school. She feels current, here and now. And it's been brilliant."

Charity Dingle's relationship with granddaughter Sarah Sugden will be permanently affected

If you're not up to speed on what's been going on, here's the storyline in a nutshell.

Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) was acting as surrogate for granddaughter Sarah Sugden (Katie Hill), but actually fell pregnant with Ross Barton's (Michael Parr) child while cheating on husband Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb).

Sarah is now raising her auntie as her own baby, and the doctor who helped deliver it spent months blackmailing Charity. Before leaving the village, she sexually assaulted her victim.

A flash-forward has since revealed that the vile surgeon, Dr Todd (Caroline Harker), will be murdered.

"Those two are locked in on a secret, and that's going to be long-lasting," Shaw teased.

"It going to affect their relationship. Obviously, there's still the baby secret to come out at some point. It's got to happen at some point.

"And how that will affect the story with with regards to the murder of Todd, you'll have to wait and see."

Robert Sugden and Aaron Dingle's wedding will eventually happen

Since their engagement in January, fans of Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) and Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) have eagerly awaited news of them tying the knot again.

Unfortunately, it seems like there may be a bit of a long wait.

"It's on the horizon somewhere," Shaw explained, "We've not storylined anything just yet. But I mean, obviously, it's Robron. Of course we're going to want to get them married at some point."

The producer also spoke of her excitement over resurrecting the Emmerdale Farm name after decades, and a resurgence in agricultural storylines.

"As a fan of the show for years, I really wanted to bring it back to its roots and that farming element," she revealed.

"That's our kind of USP from the other soaps. We've got this amazing countryside and beautiful backdrop to have more of those farming elements. We built the Dingle Farm up and brought back Emmerdale Farm. Then we've got the Tates.

"It's got that real Yellowstone vibe to it, which if you're a fan of Yellowstone, you'll love it."

Joe Tate's war with uncle Caleb Miligan is set to continue

"They're still talking about the kidney, aren't they?" Shaw laughed.

"They're still upset about the kidney. Let it go. Let it go now."

In episodes that aired last week, Caleb Miligan (William Ash) was the one to tell Joe about fiancée Dawn's infidelity with ex-husband Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle).

"Off the back of that, and in the run up to the wedding, that feud becomes bigger and bigger. And that chasm's going to open even wider between those two."

She added: "It'll be one of our big stories certainly through the rest of this year and into next year."

A new member of the Tate family arrives - but their identity will be hidden

Earlier this year, new members of the Tate and Sugden clans were revealed. While the latter has transpired in the form of Robert's distant cousin Serena (Casey Al-Shaqsy), we're yet to meet the newbie bearing the Tate moniker.

"Definitely keep your eyes peeled," Shaw uttered.

"I think the new Tate will probably appear before you realise they're a Tate."
