ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Threat Tracker is still Green for the weekend, but that may change as we narrow down tomorrow’s rain impact. Still uncertainty in the location of heaviest rain, but wherever it falls, 1-2″ or more is likely which would lead to localized flash flooding. Today, however, will be fine with mostly cloudy skies, highs in the mid 80s, and nothing more than a slight shower chance this evening. If you want to get outside, today is the day to do so, especially this morning!
Overnight, plentiful moisture builds ahead of a cold front that lies north of a low pressure system… This will produce showers that start tonight, and throughout the day tomorrow more showers will be rolling through, with some heavy thunderstorms included. The risk with these storms is that they may train; in other words, keep going over the same areas which would vastly increase the chance of flash flooding. Again, location is uncertain. There are signs that most of the rain will fall out of our area to the west. There are other signs it may fall right over Rochester and the FLX. The former is more likely, AT THIS TIME… But that may change. You’ll need to check back in over the course of today for more updates. Either way, wherever the heaviest, most persistent rain falls, we could be looking at 1-2″, perhaps more. If flash flooding occurs, be cautious near creeks and streams, and NEVER drive through flooded roadways as the water is always deeper than it looks.
That cold front will slowly pass down through the area over the course of the day Monday. This means a few residual showers/drizzles are possible Monday AM, but we should get some nice clearing for the PM. Highs will be in the upper 70s. Tuesday stays dry, and will feature partly to mostly sunny skies.
The low pressure system that will help to cause all the rain tomorrow will then slowly make its way up towards us again, causing more rain Wednesday. Chances for wet weather unfortunately continue through the second half of next week.
Stay tuned for updates!
