ROCHESTER, N.Y. — More than 1,000 cancer survivors gathered at ESL Ballpark Friday evening for its annual Survivors Night, painting the home of the Red Wings yellow in support of cancer research.
The survivors took to the field to throw the ceremonial first pitch and raise support for the annual Wilmot Warrior Weekend charity event. Survivors there said stepping on that field as one big family is exactly the kind of solidarity they need.
“It’s a way to support everyone who has gone through what I have gone through and what my son is going through right now,” Mary Knapp said. “And we need to support each other and to know how effective it is just to know that we’re all going through the same thing.”
The Wilmot Warrior Weekend is set for Sept. 19 and 20. You can walk or bike along with hundreds of others to support cancer research.
