TAC Titans Girls Sweep Events On Day 2 of Greensboro Futures ...Middle East

2026 FUTURES CHAMPIONSHIPS – GREENSBORO

The TAC Titans girls went four-for-four on Day 2 of USA Swimming’s Futures Championships in Greensboro, with Reina Liu leading the way with her second individual victory in as many nights.

The 16-year-old, who recently qualified to represent Canada at the 2026 Pan Pacific Championships, topped the field in the women’s 100 backstroke in a time of 1:01.24, just over a half-second shy of the 1:00.70 PB she set last month.

Liu was followed by Mount Lebanon Aqua Club’s Sylvia Roy, who clocked 1:02.72 after swimming the event for the first time in long course this season in the prelims (1:03.73), and All Star Aquatics’ Virginia Hinds, who clocked 1:02.87 after setting a season-best of 1:02.48 in May.

In the women’s 100 free, it was a TAC Titans 1-2 as Sloane Whelehan (56.67) edged out Caden Martin (56.79), with Whelehan coming within a tenth of her best time and Martin dipping under her previous mark of 56.86.

Taking 3rd was Westchester Aquatic Club’s Julia Bak, who lowered her lifetime best by a few tenths in 56.87 to rank 5th this season among 15-year-old girls.

Also winning for the Titans was Nola Meekins in the women’s 400 IM and Sofiya Abubakirova in the 50 fly.

Meekins, a 17-year-old Duke commit, clocked 4:50.64 to lower her previous best of 4:52.64, set at this meet last year. She was followed by NCAP’s Natalie Garre (4:54.97), who won last night’s 800 free, while two more TAC Titans, Kaylee Dietrich and Annabelle Martin, tied for 3rd in 4:55.19.

In the 50 fly, Abubakirova claimed the victory in a time of 27.22, topping RMSC’s Sarah Eliason (27.37), TAC Titans teammate Nikki Nixon (27.60), and Bak (27.65). Abubakirova, Kazakh native, owns a personal best of 26.43, set en route to a 9th-place finish at the 2025 World Junior Championships.

On the men’s side, Team Pittsburgh Elite Aquatics’ Justin Nowicki picked up his second victory of the meet in the 400 IM, clocking 4:24.97 to top runner-up Kyle Bumgardner (4:28.94) by four seconds. Nowicki was just shy of his lifetime best of 4:24.25, set this past December at the U.S. Open.

The TAC Titans got one win on the men’s side from Yegor Popov in the 100 free, as the 19-year-old put up a time of 50.95 to edge out Savannah Swim Team’s Stephen Jones (51.02). Also a native of Kazkahstan, Popov’s PB sits at 50.48 from last month’s Pro Swim Series stop in Indianapolis.

Also claiming victories were Pitt’s Jacopo Nuca in the 100 back (55.50) and Matchpoint NYC’s Eldorbek Usmonov in the 50 fly (23.90). Usmonov owns the Uzebekistani Record in the 50 fly with the 23.31 he produced at last summer’s World University Games where he won the silver medal.
