ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Here’s your guide to what’s happening around the Rochester area on Friday and this weekend. You can see more upcoming events in our community calendar.

Puerto Rican Festival (Friday and Saturday)

The 56th annual Puerto Rican Festival continues on Friday and Saturday, bringing live music, authentic food, family-friendly activities, and dozens of vendors to downtown Rochester.

    The festival kicked off on Thursday at Parcel 5 on East Main Street. Friday’s entertainment lineup starts with Trabuco at 5 p.m. and finishes with headlining act Lennox from 10 to 11 p.m. You can get tickets here.

    There are four music headliners for the festival: El Blanchy on Thursday at 9:30 p.m., Tony Vega on Friday at 8 p.m., Lennox on Friday at 10 p.m., and Oscarito “Que Loco” & Orq at 7 p.m. You can see the full entertainment lineup here.

    In addition, the Puerto Rican Parade returns on Saturday, starting at the corner of East and Alexander and ending at the festival grounds on Parcel 5. An opening ceremony starts at 10 a.m., and the parade starts at 11 a.m.

    Bands on the Bricks (Friday)

    The Bands on the Bricks concert series continues on Friday with a performance from Americana roots band Donna the Buffalo at the Rochester Public Market.

    The public market has hosted the free concert series for over 25 years. Each concert runs from 6 to 10 p.m. on Fridays. Here’s the schedule for the rest of the season:

    Red Wings Survivors Night (Friday)

    The Rochester Red Wings and Wilmot Cancer Institute are partnering to honor cancer survivors during Friday night’s game at ESL Ballpark.

    Before the game, there will be a ceremony to honor people’s battle with cancer. There will also be a Survivors Flag Ceremony in center field. Anyone who wants to participate should arrive by 6 p.m. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., and the first pitch will be around 6:45 p.m. against the Syracuse Mets.

    Seize the Day run (Sunday)

    A 5K, 10K, and mile run are happening on Sunday to raise money to support people living with epilepsy. The 5th annual Seize the Day: Amer’s Epilepsy Trail Run is happening at Mendon Ponds Park.

    Check-in begins at 8 a.m. The 5K and 10K races begin at 9 a.m., and the one-mile run starts at 9:30 a.m. Dogs on leashes are welcome. You can register here.

    Last year, more than 200 people took part. The proceeds go toward Empowering People’s Independence and its epilepsy programs, which provide education, advocacy, and support for people and families in Upstate New York. The funds also support Camp EAGR and Camp Coast, the state’s only overnight camps for young people with epilepsy.
