“Yeah, I just set up a fastball for y’all on that one. That one just kind of went with the wind. I really didn’t articulate it well, honestly. That’s not really what I meant. I meant that I had an injury. That’s it. That’s football. My foot feels great. My foot feels amazing. … Honestly, it’s not really something I think about anymore, which I think is the best thing you can have after an injury. I know ‘new normal’ has a bunch of connotations of chronic and severe things like it’s never gonna be the same. It’s not like that at all. I’m completely fine with my process of recovery and rehab. It’s been great.”

Rome Odunze Sounds Ready For Action After His Latest Status Update

I have high hopes for Rome Odunze as we enter the 2026 NFL season. Can you blame me?

Before the foot injury popped up, Odunze was on pace for an all-time great season for a Bears wide receiver. If you’ll recall, Odunze was doing stuff that hadn’t been done since Sweetness was on the gridiron. After his first four games, Odunze had 20 catches, 296 receiving yards, and five touchdowns. That put him on a pace for 85 catches, 1,258 yards, and 21 touchdowns. Maybe that touchdown number wouldn’t have reached those heights. But snagging 80+ catches and 1,200+ yards is something I think Bears fans (and everyone at Halas Hall) believe are realistic targets for the wideout to hit as a top option for quarterback Caleb Williams.

So if Rome Odunze is as healthy as he says he is, I expect him to meet (and surpass) the projections laid out as he enters his third season as a pro. The latest batch of projections from ESPN’s Mike Clay has Odunze down for 118 targets, 59 catches, 1,029 receiving yards, and 8 touchdowns. If I could lock those numbers in right now, I wouldn’t hesitate to do so. And yet, I wouldn’t want to do that because I think Odunze could post stats that could dwarf those numbers.

The only things that could have given us pause about Odunze going into this season were his health and catch consistency. Now that we have confirmation from Rome that his foot feels fine, he can start working on the drop issues that plagued him in key moments during 2025. The good news is that a retired Pro Bowl wide receiver that Odunze works with has no concerns about the drops. And with Bears WRs Coach Antwaan Randle El getting to the bottom of why the team had so many drops last year, I’m feeling pretty good after two days of training camp.
